About
Part rap, part punk, part raver
Murkage’s raw electronic sound is built from spending the nearly a decade putting on some of the best parties Manchester has ever seen. As part of Murkage Cartel, a chimera like cabal of DJs, writers, artists and other nocturnal creatures, their DIY contribution to the city's underground culture defies easy categorization.
From championing Dubstep and recreating the grimy Garage scenes of their youth, to rocking sweaty-heady-sleazy fashion parties in the noughties, Murkage have always expressed a unique creativity and philosophy through music.
Their opening gambit “In The Jungle” was only intended as a blog track, but ended up also receiving strong support from both Radio One and 1xtra, specifically Mistajam, Kissy Sell Out and Target. The debut EP from Murkage is set to do further damage to the scene, with lead single “PAPERWEIGHT” already creating a buzz both in the clubs and on the radio.
The weekly rave “The Murkage Club” was also recently awarded “Most Exciting Club Night” by CityLife Manchester.
What is Murkage Sound?
Murkage was built on the idea of juxtaposition, and Murkage Sound is an extension of that philosophy.
By combining sound files taken from the debut EP itself with your own ideas, the band want your own interpretation of the Murkage Sound. They’re looking for a short musical “drop” or “tag” of at least 30 seconds that they can use as part of their show, on the website and also at the club night. Think of it as a remix, but shorter and completely open to your interpretation with the current Murkage stems.
